Aaron Reed's Story

Founder & President

Aaron Reed's connection to the construction industry began at an early age. At just three years old, he tried to lift a piece of rebar at his father's worksite and received a simple piece of advice: "Watch your fingers." It was a small moment that marked the beginning of a lifelong passion for the building materials industry.

By age five, Aaron was learning to operate heavy equipment and gaining firsthand exposure to the values, grit, and work ethic that define the construction world. Growing up immersed in the industry, he developed a deep understanding of the products, people, and processes that drive successful projects. The sights, sounds, and challenges of the job site became second nature and helped shape the foundation of his career.

Following his graduation from Duquesne University, Aaron founded Reed Building Supply in McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania. Today, the company serves residential and commercial construction projects throughout Western Pennsylvania, Maryland, New York, and the surrounding Tri-State region. As a certified Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) and Small Business Enterprise (SBE), Reed Building Supply is built on a foundation of integrity, perseverance, and exceptional service.

A Background in Competition, A Mindset for Teamwork

Before entering the business world, Aaron built a strong foundation through athletics. He was the first Freshman All-American linebacker in Duquesne University history, a WPIAL champion, and a two-time state runner-up in basketball. Through sports, he learned lessons that extended far beyond competition—leadership, accountability, teamwork, and humility.

One of the most valuable lessons Aaron carried from his coaches was the importance of understanding your role and performing it with excellence. Not every team member scores the winning touchdown. Often, success depends on the individuals who consistently show up, do their jobs well, support those around them, and put the team's goals first.

That team-first mentality continues to shape the culture at Reed Building Supply today. By focusing on reliability, service, and doing the small things right, Aaron and the RBS team work every day to help their customers succeed.

Business Is a Team Sport

In business, just like in sports, everyone has a role to play. Whether you're a driver, yard worker, sales representative, or shareholder, every team member contributes to the success of the organization. At Reed Building Supply, respect, accountability, and teamwork are fundamental to how we operate.

Building a successful company requires strong systems, dependable service, and a commitment to keeping promises. Aaron learned early on that a person's word and reputation are among their most valuable assets. That principle continues to guide the way Reed Building Supply serves its customers, partners, and community.

The building materials industry is highly competitive, but Aaron embraces the challenge. Much like preparing for a game, success requires preparation, strategy, and execution. Earning a customer's trust and winning new business brings the same sense of accomplishment that fueled him as an athlete—and that drive continues to push Reed Building Supply forward every day.

In business, just like in sports, everyone has to know their role. Whether you’re a driver, a yard worker, a sales rep, or a shareholder - you matter. Everyone deserves respect. Everyone plays a part in the success of the team. Running a company means building systems, delivering on promises, and treating customers with honesty and care. I was taught early that you’re only as good as your word and your reputation. That principle guides everything we do at Reed Building Supply. There’s a lot of competition in this industry, but I welcome it. To me, selling building materials feels like preparing for a game you study, you plan, you execute. When you land an order, it's like scoring a touchdown. That feeling never gets old.
